Like Jabby said, PCI compliance covers this but PCI compliance is not mandatory. It is basically a fail safe that says if a company meets those standards then they can't be held liable if something happens. If you are not up to these standards, you will be fined b/c you didn't take the most basic measures to keep this information safe. Staying up with PCI standards doesn't necessarily mean nothing bad can happen. Those standards will never keep up with even the brightest criminals. All in all, talk to your bank and they will handle it for you. Last edited by SDGrad; 11-02-2009 at 06:22 PM. |

Just an update:
I was told when this first happened that I would have a refund to my account within a few days, a week at most. I'm still waiting. Somehow I'm not surprised either. |

Has anyone gotten their money back? My daughter was assured she would. Now she received a letter that she has to fill out another complaint letter and send it in and that the company that handled the credit card charges, does not think there is anything they can do. She used a debit card she gets from the state for her child support. By the way, a debit card does not give you the same protection that a credit card does.

There is a very simple solution to problems like this. Pay with cash, and you'll never be double or triple charged. Credit and debit cards or writing checks should be for larger purchases, put some cash in your pocket to pay for the little things. Is it that hard to carry around a little bit of cash to cover expenses less than 50 or 100 dollars?

I have spent a good amount of time traveling and as such, I get asked a lot of questions and make a lot of observations. 1. if you ever use your credit card and the guy runs it through and turns it over appears to be sending a text message, odds are that they are photographing the credit card number and security number. beware.
2. Pay cash when possible. 3. Keep all credit card numbers and the phone numbers to report lost or stolen cards on you but separate from your wallet. This is the off topic part. I had a japanese associate ask me a question once. We happened to be at the kongo klub at the time...His question...What is the difference between "lamb" and "mutton"...I said...when you come to the Kongo, you expect lamb...but you get mutton. regards: p |
